SALEM

This is terrifying. Salem create sparse, atmospheric soundscapes driven by rudementary beats, heavy heavy bass and a ton of synth. From the odd video that pops up every few months the North American trio clearly draw more than a little inspiration from Lynch – look for the nauseatingly uncomfortable Skullcrush video and the bizarre ‘Dirt’ clip. As mysterious as their music, it is tough to find much meaningful information about Salem, a band who rarely play live and have only released 2 EPs – but of course this is one of the most appealing things about them.

I really wanted to post up ‘Frost’ but sadly I couldn’t find this anywhere but their myspace (go listen). Instead here is probably their most accessible song to date and also one of their best, ‘Redlights’.

After a chance meeting in a furniture store Esau Mwamwaya and production duo Radioclit began working together forming ‘the Very Best’ . Last year the team dropped the hugely successful mixtape ‘Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit are the Very Best’  which, thanks to Radioclit’s production prowess seamlessly merged African Pop, Micheal Jackson and Vampire Weekend whilst Mwamwaya sang in 4 different languages. Nearly a year later and the full album is finally ready.  Here is the epic opening track ‘Yalira’.
